About the Hardy Plant Society and the Cumbria Group

The Hardy Plant Society exists to stimulate interest in growing hardy herbaceous plants. Almost 50 years ago a group of gardeners and nurserymen came together to help conserve older, rarer and unusual plants to make them more available to gardeners. Today over 10,000 members around the globe enjoy a wide range of activities for the enthusiastic hardy planter. The Society has a reputation for friendliness and offers a range of activities through local groups and national events. These provide members with the opportunity to meet other keen gardeners and to share ideas and information in a convivial atmosphere. The activities and work of the society inform and encourage the novice gardener, stimulate and enlighten the more knowledgeable, and entertain and enthuse all gardeners bonded by a love for and an interest in hardy perennial plants.

The Cumbria Group of the Hardy Plant Society was formed in January 1996 with a constitution which embodies the aims and objectives of the parent Society. We hold our lecture meetings at the Masonic Hall, Station Road, Kendal, CUMBRIA.Our membership is currently around 120.We have some talented, dedicated and hard working members but we always welcome more help with our activities. As a keen HPS member, you might consider joining our group and contributing your talents to help make gardening fun for all. Do you want to learn more about hardy perennials and share experiences with our members? We offer a varied programme of lectures to which visitors are invited. For visitors there is a charge of £2 for each lecture. At our meetings there is often an opportunity to purchase plants grown by our members.
